Happy Thanksgiving Haleiwa

grateful thanksgiving eggs in Hawaii

Aloha North Shore friends and family,

This Thanksgiving week has been a strange one... Sometimes life tries to distract me from the things that are important. Although I may momentarily lose focus, my friends and family are always around to keep me on track. The universe heckles me, but I just kick back with a smile.

Since it is Thanksgiving, I am going to follow tradition and talk about the things I am thankful for. At the top of my list is always good health. Not just my own, but most importantly, my kids. They are both healthy and happy.  My heart goes out to any parents who can't say the same thing. I am also thankful for my husband and my amazing extended family.

I don't have many close friends, but I am so thankful for the ones that I have. The best therapy there is (next to hugs and kisses from your loved ones) is spilling some tea with a friend over coffee. I am so happy to have friends that understand me. I am also thankful to have at least one friend who is willing to hike with me until our toenails turn black and fall off =)

And of course, last but not least, I am so thankful for my job. It is such a blessing to be self-employed and get to set your hours according to your own schedule. I can't imagine how hard it is for parents who struggle to find childcare in order to work. I want to thank all of my clients for making it possible for me to do what I love. I was 20 when I had my first professional massage, and I found the field of spiritual healing to be life-changing.  I am so fortunate to have found my true calling at such a young age. Thank you to all my clients for your support! I also want to thank Jeff Ramos who is the building manager of the Ka'ala Healing Arts Center and my commercial landlord. His good business sense and willingness to invest in the center has given us all a place to provide health care to the North Shore, Waialua, and Haleiwa area. I also want to thank the Otakes for allowing us all to lease their property. I am so fortunate to be a tenant in the building! I am also proud to be sharing my office space with the amazing Abby Parker. If you haven't tried her Ashiatsu before, I highly recommend it!

Moving onwards in 2018, I would like to announce that I will still be offering the $50 community wellness massage special. This massage will be 40 minutes in length and will include a consultation and assessment. I will also continue to offer medical massage through ASH networks for HMSA and Kaiser insurance and massage for no-fault accident/PIP insurance and worker's compensation. For those of you who want to pay out of pocket, I will continue to offer my custom massage services starting at $75- $140.

Please give me a call to book your Waialua massage near Haleiwa at our North Shore massage clinic. I look forward to helping you be pain free.

See you soon,

North Shore Massage Pricing

Musings on price-setting in the massage therapy industry

Some of you may recall that in the year 2017, I decided to experiment with different price points and turn-around times in massage therapy sessions. I have always enjoyed offering a range of services that caters to different demographics. Not everyone can afford top-tier services, and I want to make sure that I offer a variety of options for different budgets.

What constitutes higher priced massages?

There are many factors that affect the cost of therapy. This can range from business operating expenses, such as commercial rent, cost of products, and merchant account fees- to the training and degree of specialization of the therapist.

The current insurance reimbursement model

The current medical reimbursement model employs what I consider to be extreme cost-management. Some companies seek to limit the contracted reimbursement rates, therefore, forcing therapists to turn around their appointments quickly in order to make a net profit. There is also limited coverage for consultation and assessment before massage treatment. In the year 2017, I decided to experiment with offering a low-cost massage therapy session based on this practice model to all clientele, regardless of medical coverage. I also continued to offer my premium custom massage treatments alongside this new wellness program.

Why does this more cost-effective model fail?

In order to offer the lower priced wellness services, turn-around time became limited. I found many clients in a rush to get on and off the massage table in order to maximize their massage time. Unfortunately- without proper consultation and assessment, the massage may have felt amazing, but results were limited. Instruction on self-care was sacrificed, and details that would have improved the effectiveness of the massage never had time to surface. Although I was happy to offer a lower-cost alternative, it came at the expense of the quality of my service.

New practice model for 2018

Moving forward in the new year, all custom massage treatments will come with a full consultation and assessment. The $50 wellness massage will be reduced to 40 minutes in order to allow for the highest quality of treatment. It is my opinion that the small reduction in massage time will be made up for by the improved quality of the experience and the focused lasting effects that a full assessment allows for.

Mahalo for your understanding. My $75 custom 60 minute massage continues to be the most popular option at our Waialua massage clinic near Haleiwa. I am happy to continue offering a $50 option to those of you who are on a budget or wish to come more often.

Call me with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Sonia Beauchamp
