Hawaii Insurance Coverage for Massage Therapy: 2019 Updates

If a doctor has prescribed massage therapy for the treatment of a musculoskeletal condition, you may have coverage available from your insurance provider. Read the following updates regarding massage therapy insurance coverage in Hawaii for 2019. Give our North Shore massage clinic a call if we can help answer any questions. We are located in the Ka'ala Healing Arts Center in Waialua, just outside of Hale'iwa. We also offer our community wellness program to all kama'aina who do not have insurance coverage for massage.

Integrated Massage is a credentialed provider of massage therapy in Hawaii

Triwest: No coverage at this time

I have received confirmation from Triwest that they do not cover massage at this time. If you have a direct liaison with Triwest who claims that coverage is available, please provide their contact information to me. As of this time, the Department of Veterans Affairs program offered through Triwest Healthcare Alliance does not allow massage therapists to participate as providers and does not allow for stand-alone coverage for massage in the state of Hawaii. There may be coverage available for other states and regions, but it varies widely.

HMSA

HMSA has plans that cover massage therapy in the state of Hawaii. These are typically higher-end plans. HMSA Quest does not cover massage therapy. Please give us a call or call the number on your insurance card to confirm your Hawaii insurance coverage for massage therapy. You must have a medical condition and medical necessity for massage to be a covered benefit.

Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser has some plans that cover massage therapy. A doctors referral is needed and you must demonstrate medical necessity for massage. Call our North Shore massage clinic in Waialua near Haleiwa to determine if your policy covers massage.

HMAA

HMAA has a few companies that have opted to include massage therapy for their employees. If your employer has not opted to have massage as a benefit, let them know you are interested.

UHA

UHA has some plans that cover a nominal amount of medically necessary massage therapy in Hawaii. Members no longer need to get a doctor's prescription or referral. Please call UHA to confirm your coverage for massage before giving our North Shore massage clinic a call.
