It has been a long time since I've updated this blog, and for this, I apologize. Like most of you, I have been in shock the past few months, praying for my at-risk friends and family. I have been following the stay-at-home orders put forth by the state of Hawaii. My two children are so fortunate to be close in age and best of friends. My husband was able to get time off of work as well. We have been so lucky.
I want to extend my sincerest thank you to all the essential workers who risked their lives every day these past months. We owe so much to you!
How will COVID-19 change massage therapy?
As of June, in the city and county of Honolulu, massage therapists are allowed to return to work. However, there are many new guidelines in effect. Masks must be worn by both the therapist and the client, and the waiting area is off-limits. We are also urged to use contactless payment methods and online intake procedures. There are strict disinfecting protocols that go far beyond simply changing sheets and linens between clients.

When can I resume massage therapy on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii?
It is now almost the end of June. I am busy reopening under a new business entity: North Shore Integrated Massage LLC. It has taken over a month to get the licensing in order, and I am still working on attaining a new MAE establishment permit. I hope to be able to return to work in early July. I have ordered all the essential PPE and sanitation products and am now only waiting on the paperwork to go through.
Will massage still be covered under my health insurance policy?
Yes, if your health insurance covered massage therapy pre-COVID-19, you should still have the same coverage. However, since North Shore Integrated Massage LLC is a new business entity, we will need to get re-credentialed to place the new clinic on approved provider lists. This process may take some time. Unfortunately, we are unable to see any patients through their health insurance until this transition is made. If you need a massage, please call the number on your card in the meantime for a referral to another therapist. Depending on the cost of operating under the new post-coronavirus guidelines, we may no longer be able to accommodate certain policies. It will be trial and error, so we may not accept new insurance patients while we establish our protocols.
How do I make an appointment for a massage on the North Shore of Oahu?
At the moment, we have a waiting list for the month of July. Please call or text to have your name added to the list. We will not be taking online appointments in order to ensure that everyone fills out the mandatory waiver before their session. We are not currently open or accepting appointments as of today, June 22, 2020, but we expect to reopen in a few weeks.

In addition to our new name, we have also bid a sad farewell to Mona Thai Bodyworks. Unfortunately, Mona had to relocate to the mainland. We will miss her so much!
