Tier 4: Hawaii Massage Covid-19 Update

 Aloha Friends,

Although the effects of the pandemic continue to weigh heavy, there is now light at the end of the tunnel. On June 11, 2021, Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced the approval for Oahu to move ahead to Tier 4 of the city’s Reopening Strategy.

Tier 4 Massage Updates

Not much has changed for the field of massage therapy, but there is one guideline that is now omitted from the required procedures for personal care service providers.

Under Tier 4, massage service providers no longer have to wear face shields over their masks.

This is a huge step forward in our ability to move towards pre-pandemic operations. Although clients and therapists are still required to wear masks at all times, this omission from the guidelines will allow massage therapists to work with lesser lung fatigue.

Our clients' safety and comfort level is of the highest priority.

We are always happy to wear face shields when requested. Please feel free to let us know. Your safety and comfort is important to us, and we want you to be able to relax during your massage. You can also request that your massage therapist wear a NIOSH-approved N-95 respirator during your treatment. Otherwise, your therapist will use their best judgment in selecting either a KN-95 or an N-95 respirator to wear while performing massage.

When will Oahu, Hawaii return to no restrictions for massage?

Many of you are anxious to not wear your mask during massage services. We want you to know that we appreciate your willingness to follow the city and county of Honolulu's Covid-19 regulations. There is speculation that once Hawaii reaches the vaccination threshold of 70%, there will no longer be any restrictions on massage. For now, you must wear your mask during your services even if you are fully vaccinated. We apologize for the inconvenience. Mahalo for your kokua.

Stay tuned for updates.

Love,
Sonia
